This was followed by a Master's and PhD in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Liverpool, further solidifying his expertise in the field.

He lectured at the University of Maiduguri before joining the University of Ilorin, where he rose to the position of Professor of Veterinary Medicine and later became the pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. His leadership and contributions to the university were significant, and he served as the 9th Vice-Chancellor from 2012 to 2017. Ambali's influence extended beyond the University of Ilorin; he was the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of Kwara State University, a role he held after his tenure at Ilorin.
